a bit about my babies 1.17.2016

is it seriously 2016? today is one of those days where i'm super emotional and even thinking about my kids brings me to tears of gratitude that they're mine. so glad to start another year with them. it's been a long time since i've done one of these so i'm sure i've missed some things which is sad, but i'll see what i can remember.

bea
-bea has decided that she has two imaginary best friends, wall-e and eve. she talks about them all the time and is constantly making us aware of their presence, whether it's saving them a seat at dinner, or making them attend fhe, we know they're there. this is new so who knows how long it will last..

-bea is starting to say a lot more words correctly which sort of breaks my heart but she still says some her own special way, like "rememmer?!?!" {mom, you're not little, you're big! rememmer?!} and she says "badore" instead of "adore", "fing" instead of "thing" and f for all other th words, and she loves the song "firework" but instead of "baby you're a firework" she says, "maybe you're a firework!!" which i love.

-she loves to dance even more now. she still loves ballet class and has laser focus during class.

-she loves to watch the sound of music to see the singing and dancing, and she'll come up to me and bow and hold out her hand and say "should i have this dance??" (she always says "should i" instead of "may i" or "can i") she can actually sit through and follow the whole thing. it's pretty impressive. she thinks maria's name is "laydeeodelayeehoo" and thinks that is also the name of the movie. a lot of time, the puppet scene is the only one she wants to watch.

-she goes around the house dancing and going "baybeh baybeh" a la britney spears. it's great.

-i told her if she ever wants to go to preschool she is going to have to learn to do the whole potty process by herself. so now she does it all by herself and if i try and help (like when she poops. i can't bear her wiping her own poop. that's where i draw the line) she says "mom i have to do it myself so i can go to preschool!!!!!!!" she just went like 3 months with no accidents and then had 2 this week. both my fault i think. i waited way too long to take her while we were out and about the first one and the second one i put her in clothes that were too hard for her to pull down by herself so she had an accident in the bathroom. i'll add too that now that i'm doing better, an accident doesn't totally ruin my week. after we clean it up and stuff i can just roll with it, which makes everyone happier.

-she still has a nervous tick of licking her upper lip so it is always ridiculously chapped. i feel like i tell her a million times a day to put her tongue in but it never works.

-i got out of the shower the other day and she had red lipstick on ALL over her face and found my basket of "lush" products and was going through them trying to figure out what they were for. classic 2 year old stuff. i should have gotten a picture!

-her new favorite thing to play with are dress-ups. she LOVES them and whenever we go to gramma's that's her first order of business.

-she BEGGED for a lalaloopsy pink easy bake oven for christmas so we really had no choice but to tell santa to get it. so he did. and we actually still use it at least once a week. she really likes it. it makes her feel like a grown up girl.

-she just finally started to play with dolls and treat them like babies. a little late, but still cute. she likes to put her minnie doll and baby doll down for naps.

-she's started to go to the bathroom to do her own hair and comes out with all kinds of stuff in it.

-every time we go to tjmaxx or homegoods she REALLY wants to smell the soaps. she makes sure to open every box of bar soap and smell it and give her opinion ("this smells like fresh water!"). it's really funny what she comes up with. her little eyes are red with allergies when she is done but i can't stop her so i just go with it.

oliver

-HE CAN SIT UP! HALLELUJA!! I can finally go shopping with him in a grocery cart. it's really nice but we need to put his new carseat in so that it's easier to get him in and out of the car. it's much more fun for him to play with his toys now that he's sitting up too so we're all happy here.

-he really wants to crawl. he does the inchworm thing during tummy time and it's fun to see the little wheels working in his head trying to figure it out.

-he rolls EVERYWHERE. he can virtually get anywhere he wants now by rolling.

-he holds his own bottle which makes his early morning feeding much easier (change, give bottle, leave.)

-we've started solids with him and he really enjoys eating (surprise surprise. he is huge.) and it's done the opposite thing to his insides that it did to bea's. he is much more regular now that he is on solids. they stopped bea up soooo bad. he is a happy guy with his new feeding plan.

-he is sooo giggly now! he has the cutest little laugh and loves to do it. while he is less content of a baby than bea was, he feels everything 1000% percent.
hungry? I WILL SCREAM UNTIL YOU FEED ME!!!
sick? I CANNOT BREATHE AND NOW YOU WILL ALL SUFFER AS I SUFFER!!!!
tired? MAKE ME SLEEP OR I WILL CURSE YOU WITH ENDLESS TORMENT!
shots? HOW DARE YOU PRICK ME! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!!!????
blow in his face? THIS IS THE FUNNIEST THING ANYONE HAS EVER DONE IN THE HISTORY OF TIME!
tickle his tummy? HOW DO YOU ELICIT SUCH HUMOR SO EASILY! I SHALL LAUGH FOREVER!
you get the picture. he is a spirited child. i don't think he will be as precocious as bea is but he will definitely feel things very deeply.

-he is starting to get a little stranger danger, and HATES it when we leave the room. he immediately starts crying when he doesn't have a visual on another human being.

-sometimes he'll just chill with me on the couch while i watch tv. he doesn't really snuggle but he'll sit next to me and hold still-ish. so i'll take it. i know they're not supposed to do screens blah blah blah but seriously, i'm a very happy intelligent human being and i'm pretty sure i watched some tv in my infancy. i'm fine.

-he is still a pretty good sleeper. for some reason he likes to go down early (like 5:30-6:30ish) but he sleeps til 5, eats, and then goes back down til 7:30. we have been so blessed with sleeping children.

-his spitting up has slowed down SIGNIFICANTLY and he only does it a few times per day now. it's soooo nice.

here's so pics of them lately. they are the best.

  1. I like these update posts. Also I'm so glad Ollie is doing better with tummy stuff. I also remember Ros' digestion did waaaaay better once we started solids. Funny thing. Also, when Ros and Bea were FaceTiming the other day, I was listening to Bea talk and sing and I suddenly remembered when she was like 4 or 5 months old when I first met her and she was all tiny and smiley and...I don't know. She's such a big, smart girl now. How time flies with kids :)
