my husband is very smart
since we are going to be at a wedding (YAY!) all of next week and then moving 4 days after we get home, we decided we'd get started on our packing a little early. we decided to start in the attic.
our attic is kind of a mess.
what is up there, you ask? some wedding presents we still haven't opened. boxes that our appliances came in. maternity clothes. but mostly..... games. lots and lots of games. board games. card games. video games. bradley likes games. i know a lot of men who have expensive hobbies (golf?????) and spend tons of money each month participating in said hobbies. gaming is a surprisingly expensive hobby. as far as board games go, they average about $40 a piece. then video games are $50+ each, plus the platforms and consoles on which to play them are all $200+. and then there's the ipad and iphone games! ipads run about $400+ and then the iphone 5 is what like $300 with an upgrade? and apps are anywhere from free to $10 a piece. with the amount of new apps bradley tries per week, that's like $10 per week. but bradley is smart about his gaming passion.
{lucky for me, he is way too considerate of my needs and way too sensible to spend that kind of money [or time! seriously. every second away from me is a second wasted (; ] on a hobby.
instead he found a way to make his time spent gaming productive, and eliminate the spending of money on it altogether. enter his blog (i know i know i talk about it all the time! it's just so cool). for the past 3 years, he's been reviewing games for the largest gaming sites on the web and making quite a name for himself. (and money. money too. we like money.) it's blossomed into other forms of work such as game producing and game/app marketing and PR consulting. it's how he got this amazing opportunity in Philly actually.}
ANYWAY! back to our attic.
last night was our night to pack up all of those games that literally get shipped to us almost weekly and then get tossed up there to be played later. we had PILES UPON PILES of games up there, and a couple shelves stacked with them, and our coat closet was also full of games. so as we organized them into neat piles and filed them into giant clear plastic boxes, i decided to count them and see what percent of games we own were actually bought by us.
we have 128 games! which doesn't include video games, apps, or games we've given away/donated/gifted/tossed. and we only bought 16 of them ourselves! so i did the math to see how much one would have to spend to buy those games, and it came to $5120! then we have about 30 video games, an xbox and kinect, a wii, a wiiU, an appleTV, plus brad's iPad and iPhone, which comes to about $4000. that's $9120 we've saved, (not to mention how much he's made on top of that!) just because bradley has decided to make his hobby productive rather than not! anyway. this started as a post just to say "wow we have a lot of games, so glad we just sorted them and cleaned our attic" but it turned into husbandpraise. i just have to brag on him sometimes. he is too cool.
