PHILADELPHIA?!?! WHAT?!
I know. That's what I said, too. I never in my life thought I would live anywhere but New York, LA, or Texas, but here we are, moving to Philly. And in only 3 short weeks! Here's the Reader's Digest version:
Bradley has, like I have mentioned several times, gained quite a bit of notoriety in the gaming world, especially in app development and such. So, after doing several jobs freelance in gaming (in addition to his day job as the Licensing Manager at the audio tour company), he was approached by a game company in Philadelphia that wanted him to be in charge of all their marketing! So they signed up a deal this week and Bradley put in his notice at his current job yesterday, and tomorrow we are off to Philly (just a skip and a hop away, a mere 2 1/2 hour drive) to do some crazy quick apartment hunting!
I would be lying if I said I wasn't terrified of this change, but I'd also be lying if I said I wasn't very excited. This job sounds like it will really be great fun for Bradley, and it will be interesting to discover a city, that quite frankly, I know almost nothing about. This will be the first move we take together where we really will be completely on our own at first. Utah has always had a great big safety net of established friendships for us, and so has New Canaan. Philadelphia is a whole new world to us, which makes me nervous, but also has me feeling pretty adventurous. I know we will adjust and find friends quickly, but I have to say, it's still a bit daunting. Also, in case you're wondering, I would be sad about no longer living close to my parents, BUT they've already planned on ditching me for Utah at the end of the Summer. So, at least this way they'll still be around to help us move ;) And come check up on us a few times before they leave. ;)
We will dearly miss the friends we have made here in New Canaan (grown-ups and kiddos alike). We have enjoyed our time here so much and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. This is truly a bittersweet move. I've definitely shed my share of tears when thinking about leaving this town and this ward and the friends I've grown to love so much. Luckily, we aren't going too far, and you definitely are not seeing the last of us anytime soon. (4th of July at Waveny, anyone??!)
For a while, there were a few other options on the horizon in more Westerly areas, but to tell you the truth, I'm secretly a little glad we are staying on the East Coast. I don't think I'm ready to leave yet. I mean, have you seen this place in the spring?! I don't think I could tear myself away.
So there you have it. We move pretty much as soon as we get back from Peter's wedding. Our move-in date is June 1st to whichever place we choose out there. Also, if you know anyone who lives in Philly, or if you have lived there before, ANY tips or info would be mucho appreciated. I've never felt so unprepared for anything in my life! (except for maybe having Bea....but this is a close second!)
AH! THINGS ARE HAPPENING!!
What exciting news!! Congrats! :) Exploring new cities is such fun; I'm sure you'll have a blast. And now I have yet another reason to come visit you (someday!!!).
ReplyDeleteHi! Sorry to be creepy but I'm in the WTE group and started following your blog.. I used to live in Philly and would recommend Manayunk or East Falls or Rittenhouse. Stay away from the inner city unless its center city... Philly is very big, very dirty in parts and quite unsafe. Oh and the cockroaches are mutants.. Bigger than my dog, I swear.
ReplyDeletehaha not creepy at all! we actually looked in Manayunk today and LOVED it! hopefully that's where we'll end up. and i am a texas girl, i know alllllll about giant roaches lol i'll bring my raid ;)
