ok.
I've been debating on whether or not I should share name ideas with people for a long time because, as I stated in my last post, when sharing name ideas, everyone always has something to say about any name choice, regardless of whether you've told them you love it or not.
For example:
When sharing ideas with one of Bradley's grandmas, we said we had been thinking about names A, B, and C, upon which she said loudly, "Whoa! Keep thinking!"
Since then, I have kept my options rather private. I am usually TOTALLY one for honesty. I'm the one who genuinely wants you to tell me that I look fat in that outfit and should change immediately. But this feels different.
Granted, a lot of times when I hear people's name choices today, this is me:
But I've been trying to remedy that. Because guess what? One of those names that gets shared with me WILL be the name of my friend's child. And the only thing my opinion will do (because trust me, they aren't gonna go a-scramblin' for a new choice if it's not my favorite name) is either make people think I'm a loudmouthed jerkface for dissing the name they have spent countless hours tenderly selecting, or make me that cool, nice friend who *also* loves that name! (Even if loving that name is a bold-faced lie!)
SO. Before I share. Just keep that in mind ;) And as if that wasn't explicit enough.....I'll just say it...please, no negative comments. DO however, feel free to share anything POSITIVE!!! hooray for positive vibes!
I never would have thought this before I married him, but Bradley is very particular about names. (Who knew, right?!) ESPECIALLY girls' names. I feel like EVERY SINGLE TIME that I would suggest a name, he would flat out reject it.
Exhibit A:
Me : "How about _____?"
Bradley : "Yikes! I hope she makes at least ONE friend to accompany her to all the Renaissance fairs she'll be attending!"
And yes, all of his objections were that detailed. He denies the frequency of this occurrence. Anyway, after several rejections, I decided I'd make HIM come up with some names of his own. (Which took him FOREVER.) So, he and I each made a list of our favorite 10 names in no particular order.
Afterwards, we sorted each other's lists in order of personal preference. (I HATED some of his, he HATED some of mine. Which is which, you'll never know! Muwahahahaha!!!!)
I am going to show you each of our lists BEFORE they got re-organized. So. Here goes (again, no particular order):
BRADLEY'S LIST
1. Lily
2. Beatrice
3. Natalie
4. Valentine
5. Esther
6. Adelaide

There you have it! And, even though I've been thoroughly grouchy about negative vibes....feel free to share your favorites from the lists! (especially if they are from my list, so I can dangle that over Bradley's head! HA!!)
Now, DANCE! Because this ridiculously long post (I'm now realizing how incredibly long-winded I am....) and this week are almost over!!!!!
CAITY OUT!
Gwendolyn is my absolute favorite!! So excited for you guys!!
ReplyDeleteYour list wins with me overall. I love Esther, Bridget, Stella (i have a beautiful/favorite niece named Stella), Margot, Sydney, and Gwendolyn. SO CUTE!!!! I'm so jealous you're having a girl!
ReplyDeleteOk, I have some stuff to say: foist off, I really, really like "whimsy soup." I think the fact that it kind of doesn't make sense actually makes sense for the thrown-together-ness that your blog already has. I think you should change eet.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a couple of the names on your list I love and I think one or two on Bradley's. One in particular happens to be on MY list so if you choose that one...watch out... jk
Haha!
ReplyDeleteTaylor is /exactly/ the same. The /only/ two we have been able to agree on is Alexis and Annaleigh.
I think you both have great lists :)Can't wait to meet this baby girl! My favorites are: Stella, Lucy, Beatrice ( Do you know Gabby's middle name is Beatriz?), Sydney, Elaina, and Bridget. Also, do you guys have matching nicknames in mind as well? I'm always curious about this since so many people call me by my nickname :) I feel it's important!! haha
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I am so disappointed that Brad's list does not include DONNA!(Yes it must be shouted always.)
ReplyDeleteSecond, I congratulate you for not having extra Qs, Zs, or any other "imaginative" spellings in the names.
Finally, I approved of Jacqueline; It's classy without being uppity.
