As most of you know by now from my facebook, BRADLEY GOT OFFERED A JOB!!!!!!! It was such perfect timing. The Lord really has been looking out for us.
Here's the first part of the story:
The producer Bradley had been working for (and that I have been volunteering for) was slowly beginning to lose it. Her projects, to be honest, were showing little promise, and she was running out of money and sanity. Bradley's wages were low, I was working way too hard for free, and we had little faith in the projects. As she slowly ran out of money, she ran out of her already limited sanity and kindness. My two assistant editors were planning to resign, and Bradley was counting down the days until his contract ended. We had gone from laughing at how crazy it was to work with her, to dreading every moment we had to spend working for her. I could go on for days and days about this (too late!), but suffice it to say, that she was exhibiting delusional behavior that made it close to impossible to work for her. So my editors and I scheduled a meeting to announce our resignation. We knew it would be dicey, because knowing her, she would probably punish Bradley with meanness once she found out I had quit. But! Things were looking up; Bradley landed two job interviews in the days before the doomsday meeting. I was scared to do this meeting if Bradley didn't have a job lined up, because then he would have to finish out his 5 month contract with her, and I knew it would be miserable for him once all her editors quit. And then, the night before the meeting, BRADLEY WAS OFFERED A JOB!!!! How awesome is that?! So now he is just training his replacement and we are out of there for good. *Phew*
I hope that made sense. It's kind of muddled, sorry. Anyway, on to the next part!
Bradley and I had a system. In addition to Bradley networking with the best of references, we were also scouring every online job board possible to try and find him SOMETHING in the impossible job market right now. Our system worked as follows: I picked the job boards DRY almost every day, and sent my spoils to Bradley, who would get to work on them after coming home from the city, and then spend a couple hours on Saturday working on applying to them. After all of Bradley's experience thus far, he has felt that an entry level job as a production coordinator would be best for him at this point. His plan is to work his way up from there, with a pit stop in grad school in there somewheres. SO. We were looking for something that he wanted to do, that had full benefits and paid enough AT LEAST for rent and food ;) , that wouldn't be so enticing that it would lure him away from an MBA.
So. Bradley got an offer from the company that produces (almost) every audio tour for every museum and historical/cultural site in the world. If you have ever taken an audio tour anywhere, there is a 99% chance that this company produced it. His interview was at their office in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan (so sophisticated, right?!). He will be the coordinator for their rights and clearances department. The kicker? The company JUST opened a new office the next town over from us. He won't have to commute! (thats like $500 train fare we will save each month!) He will only need to go into the city twice a month. It is bittersweet; he will really miss working in the city and his precious train time (those of you who know what that's like, you know how serious this is!) but he will like spending more time with ME! And waking up later (which he probably won't even do.) And while this job is cool stable and stimulating, it is NOT the dream job that will keep him out of grad school. It is everything we need and we are THRILLED to start this next chapter and move out of my parents' house ;) Now off to our own apartment. I am hiring my awesome little sister as my interior designer, so I am ready to get this show on the road!
wahooo!!!!!
