a little bit of life lately 8.6.18

my sisters and i do an occasional update email thread where we tell everyone what's going on in our lives since we all live far apart now. i always feel guilty for not writing enough because i have a ton going on (but what is it that we do exactly with all my running around all the time? i really couldn't tell you. it just never slows down.) but this time.
this time, i "got" to go to adult sunday school instead of play piano in primary (which i love), so i took that opportunity to spend an hour writing my family update. then i thought, "this would make a great blog family update" so here we are in copy and paste town.

Hi people!
Shannon I’m glad you can get Ros in a reading mood, ever. Bea HATES reading. I got a summer reading challenge sheet from the library that gave her two months (june 1-july 31) to read 18 books and she just wouldn’t do it. Even with all the prizes they offered. She hates it. She read about 12 books. 🙄🙄🙄

She does however have a striking talent for arts and crafts. She can color or paint for hours and can look at something and just draw it scary-accurately for someone her age. She also just follows visual instructions well. She saw a sheet in a craft book about how to make pop-up cards and she just did it! She made a little collage fairy from construction paper and made it into a pop up. She’s incredible.

She loves tiaras, tutus, and lipstick. She demanded lipstick for her final soccer game yesterday and what do ya know, she scored a goal. Lipstick has magic powers. When school starts I’m gonna have to get her some lip smackers so she can wear something appropriate to school. She will miss wearing tiaras everyday but we can replace them with headbands and she can wear smaller tutus over leggings. She starts kindergarten on August 27 and asks for a daily countdown. She’s so ready. I’m not quiet ready for summer to be over but I’m almost ready. I will miss pool and splash pad days and soaking up sun all at our own whims. I’m a whimsy person in general and that’s a hard trait to control when you’re on a strict school/dance schedule. But I’m excited all the same.

Speaking of school, ollie can actually start school now that he’s (mostly) potty trained!!!! He wears underwear except for at nursery when he wears a pull up. He struggles with #2 accidents but other than that he is a dry guy! And sometimes at night but we’re not all the way there. One more month should do it. We toured his school this week and oh my gosh it’s adorable! It’s run by a teacher who used to be the music teacher at our elementary school, but wanted to branch out and do her own thing. His class is small and she is not afraid to be flexible with the potty situation, and it’s only 85 dollars a month! (Tues/thurs mornings) and since she was a teacher at our school, she coordinated the schedule with kindergarten so our drop off and pick up times with work around each other, giving me 2 hours on my own 2 days a week. I’m excited to start exercising at home, ALONE!!!!

Oliver is an energy ball who always is coming up to us and slamming us with his fists. We are always saying “Oliver do not hit us!” And he says sweetly “i am just giving pat pats!!!” And i genuinely think he believes it. We need to work on softness. His intentions are noble. #boyprobs
He likes swords and nerf/water guns. He calls them “powers” and we have no idea why. He loves puzzles and is super good at them and does them very quickly. He also likes board games and has several favorites (German fancy ones that brad buys) He’s a picky eater but loves broccoli, bell peppers, cucumbers, toast, cereal, and Mac and cheese.

We had plans to finish our basement this summer but things got crazy and we didn't get around to it. Maybe in the fall. Hopefully we’ll be able to find a contractor available to do it.

Fortnite is exploding and it’s very fun to be a part of such a huge global sensation. Work is fun for brad but he does have to travel a lot, as headquarters are in North Carolina, and he is the only utah marketing team member. Moving there is not and won’t be in the future, but he is going to start spear heading a new project and will be able to do more here. he will probably have to go back every 4-6 weeks or so.

I am just juggling kids and working one day a week for a friend doing bookkeeping and other office assistant stuff. I’ve cut down the workload he needs done by about 2/3 so there’s not a ton for me to do anymore so i want to see if there’s something else i can do just for myself. I’m struggling with finding a project for myself to work on. July was a hard month and i struggled with my health quite severely. I’m starting to get back on my feet now and am ready to enjoy a couple more weeks of summer before jumping into the fray of school and activities. I'm hoping to volunteer at school if my health allows and meet Bea’s schoolmates and their parents.

Anyway. Sunday school is almost over and i need to take Oliver to the potty. This was super long, sorry!!!

Love Caity and co

/end email/

there's obviously always going to be more stuff going on than what i just had off the top of my head during a boring sunday school lesson, but i think this is a good little update. i've royally sucked at those lately.

for whatever reason, i've had really bad writing mojo for months. maybe it's just because i fell out of the habit and then got out of writing mode so i just didn't have a lot of inspiration because my inspiration muscles were atrophied. who even knows. i enjoy writing so much, so hopefully i can jump into it again. i just need to get the juices flowing.

ANYWAY. it's really late. i always stay up way too late when brad's out of town.
must. sleep.
